Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Freelance Site Supervisor to join a major highways and infrastructure contractor in the South West. The role covers overseeing site activities, managing direct labour and subcontractors, and delivering works on a live programme.

Starting late August/early September, the contract runs through May/June with potential extensions. You will work with Site Agent and Site Engineer, ensure safety and quality, and maintain daily site records.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Site Supervisor on highways or civil projects.
• SSSTS/SMSTS qualification and CSCS card required.
• First Aid qualification preferred.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervising direct labour and subcontractors.
• Ensuring works are delivered safely and in line with programme.
• Coordinating daily site operations and resources.
• Delivering site briefings, toolbox talks and inductions.
• Monitoring health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Liaising with Site Agent and Site Engineer.

Freelance Site Supervisor

Location: South West England

Duration: Initial contract through to May/June, with further opportunities available

We're currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance Site Supervisor to join a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering a programme of highways and infrastructure works across the South West.

This is an excellent opportunity to secure a long-term freelance contract, with an initial highways scheme commencing in early September and a clear pipeline of work extending into next summer. There may also be opportunities to support additional infrastructure and maintenance projects as the programme expands.

The Role

You'll be working as part of an experienced delivery team alongside a Site Agent and Site Engineer, overseeing site activities and supporting the safe and efficient delivery of highways improvement works.

Typical works include

• Highway widening and realignment
• Footway construction and widening
• Pedestrian crossing installations
• Bus stop improvements
• General highways and infrastructure works

Responsibilities

• Supervising direct labour, subcontractors and site activities
• Ensuring works are delivered safely and in line with the programme
• Coordinating daily site operations and allocating resources
• Delivering site briefings, toolbox talks and inductions
• Monitoring health, safety, environmental and quality standards
• Liaising with the Site Agent, Site Engineer and subcontractors
• Maintaining accurate site records and daily reports
• Supporting the management of materials, plant and deliveries
• Identifying and reporting site issues, delays and risks

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Site Supervisor on highways or civil engineering projects
• Strong knowledge of site health and safety requirements
• Experience supervising direct labour and subcontractors
• SSSTS or SMSTS qualification
• CSCS Card
• First Aid qualification preferred
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Ability to work across multiple schemes when required
