Job summary

Astute People are recruiting a Site Engineer for a major highways project near Penrith, Cumbria. You will be responsible for setting out, surveying, and coordinating works with self-delivered and subcontractor packages.

The role involves maintaining records, reviewing drawings, and ensuring adherence to programme, quality and safety requirements, with opportunities to support graduates on site.

Qualifications

• This role requires 2-3+ years’ experience as a Site Engineer on highways or major civil projects.
• It is advantageous to have worked for a Tier 1 or major contractor and hold CSCS.
• Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or related discipline is preferred.
• Strong setting out, surveying, and interpretation of drawings and specs.

Responsibilities

• Set out and perform dimensional checks across site activities.
• Maintain survey records and produce as-built drawings.
• Read and interpret earthworks, drainage and reinforcement drawings.
• Manage site records, diaries and documentation.
• Coordinate subcontractors and monitor progress against programme.
• Prepare Works Package Plans, Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
• Deliver daily and team briefings and site safety inspections.
• Support graduate/trainee engineers and ensure environmental compliance.
