Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Highways Operations Maintenance Team for a Highway Operations Stores and Support Officer.

Based at the Brindley Road depot in Cardiff, the Highway Operations team carryout a variety of frontline maintenance activities to keep the highway a safe place for all users. These activities include paving repairs, streetlighting maintenance, gully cleansing, and barrier replacements -both on a planned and reactive basis.

About the job

The Operations Stores and Support Officer is a hands-on role responsible for the management of the Highways Operations support functions. These functions include quality delivery of administration support for the service and the effective operation of the stores based at the depot.

The post holder will line manage the stores operatives who administer both the internal stores and the stock held within the yard and ensure the effective sourcing, procuring and management of materials/stock through a variety of suppliers. They will be responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of processes for the effective stock control within a safe working environment.

The post holder will also manage the administrative support for the Highways Operations department overseeing the accurate recording of stock movements, financial reconciliation, insurance reports for cost recovery, and the processing of payment claims.

What We Are Looking For From You

•Numerate and literate to GCSE standard or equivalent level of education/training demonstrating the accurate recording and analysis of information.
•Excellent communication skills and a strong emphasis on detail and accuracy.
•Must have supervisory experience to provide leadership to staff working within a stores or inventory management environment and administrative functions.
•Full valid manual driving licence with the self-motivation and willingness to undertake further training relevant to the post while developing others.
•Able to work collaboratively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth running of the Highways Operations services.
•Be adaptable and respond to changing demands and priorities.
•Availability to work outside normal working hours when required – potential for inclusion on the out-of-hours emergency rota.
•Licenced Forklift and Telehandler Driver or ability to obtain relevant licences within first year of employment.
