Job summary

VolkerHighways UK is seeking a Highways Operative to join our team at the Chichester depot in West Sussex. You will perform highways maintenance tasks including kerb, footway, drainage, and patching works, while operating plant and machinery under supervision where needed.

The role involves outdoor work in all weather, a willingness to undertake training (NRSWA, CSCS, winter duties), and a strong team player ethos to meet daily targets and maintain safety standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in highways maintenance or civils is desirable.
• NRSWA/SWQR qualification is required or desirable.
• Full UK driving licence is desirable; training may be provided.

Responsibilities

• Carry out highways maintenance tasks: kerb laying, footway works and drainage/patching.
• Operate and maintain various plant and machinery; training provided where needed.
• Support emergency call-out and winter maintenance as part of out-of-hours rota.
