Job summary

Kier Group in Bridgwater, Somerset, is seeking a Highways Maintenance Operative to join the Somerset team. This permanent, full-time role involves responding to defects and emergencies on the highway, carrying out repairs and routine maintenance, and helping keep the road network safe for communities.

You will use tablet devices to record work, operate plant and equipment safely, support winter maintenance, and work as part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Support winter maintenance and severe weather operations when required.

We're looking for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our Somerset team based in Bridgwater, Somerset.

Location: Bridgwater, Somerset

Contract: Permanent, Full time

Salary: £27,976 to £30,000 depending on experience + call out + overtime

This is an excellent opportunity to join our highways team, where you'll play a vital role in maintaining and improving the Somerset road network. You'll be responding to emergencies, carrying out repairs, and helping to ensure our highways are safe and well‑maintained for everyone who uses them. What will you be responsible for?

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you'll be working within the Somerset team, supporting them in delivering efficient and timely highway services across the network. Your day to day will include:

• Responding to defects and emergencies on the highway, ensuring updates are provided through tablet devices and installing traffic management signage where needed
• Carrying out minor improvement works and routine maintenance to enhance the road network
• Operating a variety of plant and equipment safely and effectively to complete your duties
• Using tablet devices to accurately record works and maintain clear communication with the team and clients
• Supporting winter maintenance activities and severe weather operations when required
