Job description

About The Job

Do you have an inspection background in highways or a related area and are looking for a new challenge? Do you enjoy being out on site but prefer a regular daytime working pattern and more autonomy in managing your workload? Reporting to the Inspector Team Manager, you will work independently or with a team member to conduct asset condition and safety inspections, survey works, and provide feedback on the quality of asset repairs.

Working patterns can be flexible by agreement with the team manager, but contractually, your working hours will be 37 hours per week. The role may also require working unsociable hours, including nights, to respond to incidents.

Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role. You must have no more than 3 points on your driving license to be considered for this position and during employment.

Ideally, you should live within an hour's commute from the depot.

  • Carrying out regular driven safety inspections, reporting, and raising work requests for high-priority safety defects.
  • Conducting cyclical and ad-hoc asset inspections on the network via driving and walking, in line with schedules, procedures, and standards, recording all asset conditions and findings (e.g., defects and causes).
  • Monitoring event signage and illegal signage, escalating issues as needed.
  • Supporting regional engineering teams in planning activities by collecting and sharing up-to-date asset condition and inspection data.
  • Prioritising health, safety, and wellbeing in all activities.
About You
  • Experience or knowledge of highways asset condition inspections or similar inspections in other sectors.
  • Understanding of highway asset maintenance and relevant legal aspects.
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations applicable to highway maintenance works.
  • Strong IT and data collection skills, with experience using data capture devices preferred.
  • Ability to manage your own workload while working effectively as part of a team.
