Job summary

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is seeking a motivated Highways Improvement Engineer to help deliver highway improvement schemes that enhance road condition, safety and traffic flow within the borough. You will work within the Highways and Traffic team from data collection through to construction supervision.

You will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, including site surveys, drawings, stakeholder engagement and reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience or knowledge of highway engineering, construction or transportation projects.
• Understanding of highway design principles and engineering standards.
• Ability to interpret technical information and produce engineering drawings and documentation.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Confidence in dealing with contractors, stakeholders and members of the public.
• Awareness of relevant health and safety legislation and engineering best practice.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver highway improvement schemes to improve network condition, safety and traffic movement.
• Undertake site surveys, collect and analyse data, and support engineering solutions.
• Prepare and review drawings, specifications and cost estimates.
• Inspect works on site for compliance with specifications, quality standards and health and safety requirements.
• Liaise with contractors, utility companies and other stakeholders during scheme delivery.
• Issue works orders, site instructions and variations as appropriate.
• Assist with the programming and delivery of annual highway works.
• Respond to enquiries from residents, elected members, MPs and partners.
• Prepare and present technical reports.

Key Responsibilities

You will:
