Job summary

Waterman Infrastructure & Environment Ltd in Greater London is seeking a motivated Highways & Infrastructure Engineer to deliver highways, drainage and development projects across residential, commercial, industrial, logistics and major schemes.

You will work with transport planners, environmental specialists and project managers to develop innovative, buildable solutions and advance toward Chartered Engineer status.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Experience in a UK engineering consultancy or contractor environment.
• Understanding of highway and infrastructure design principles.
• Knowledge of UK design standards and guidance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare preliminary and detailed highway designs for developments.

Job description

Waterman Infrastructure & Environment Ltd is seeking a motivated and technically capable Highways & Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing Civil Engineering and Transportation team. The successful candidate will support the delivery of highways, infrastructure, drainage and development engineering projects across a diverse range of sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, logistics, energy, regeneration and major infrastructure developments.

Working within Waterman's multidisciplinary consultancy environment, you will collaborate with transport planners, environmental specialists, flood risk consultants, structural engineers and project managers to develop innovative, sustainable and buildable engineering solutions. The role offers excellent opportunities for technical development, professional progression and support towards Chartered Engineer status. Key Responsibilities

• Prepare preliminary and detailed highway designs for residential, commercial and infrastructure developments.
• Design highway alignments, junction improvements, access roads, roundabouts and active travel infrastructure.
• Undertake pavement design and coordinate highway construction specifications.
• Develop Section 38, Section 278 and private road designs.
• Prepare design drawings, reports and technical documentation using industry-standard software.
• Assist in the preparation of technical approval submissions and responses to authority comments.
• Support the production of feasibility studies, concept designs and infrastructure strategies.

Drainage & Utilities

• Assist in the preparation of drainage strategies and detailed drainage designs.
• Design Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) in accordance with current standards and best practice.
• Coordinate drainage, utility and highway designs to achieve integrated engineering solutions.
• Undertake hydraulic calculations and contribute to flood risk mitigation measures where appropriate.
• Liaise with utility providers and statutory undertakers regarding infrastructure requirements.

Project Delivery

• Deliver technical outputs to agreed programmes, budgets and quality standards.
• Assist with project management activities including programming, resourcing and commercial reporting.
• Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
• Participate in design reviews and quality assurance processes.
• Attend project meetings, site visits and client workshops.
• Develop strong working relationships with clients, local authorities and project stakeholders.
• Support discussions with:

• Utility Providers
• Assist with public consultation and technical approval processes where required.
• Present technical information clearly and professionally.
• Business Development & Continuous Improvement
• Support bid submissions, fee proposals and framework opportunities.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing and technical innovation across the business.
• Promote Waterman's sustainability objectives and low-carbon design approach.
• Participate in professional development activities and work towards Chartership where applicable.

Skills & Experience

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience within a UK engineering consultancy or contractor environment.
• Understanding of highway and infrastructure design principles.
• Knowledge of UK design standards and guidance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Experience of Causeway Flow, MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage.
