Job summary

Enerveo is recruiting a Highways Electrician - Testing based in Fareham. The role focuses on testing, fault finding and reporting for street lighting with compliance to safety regs.

You will work as part of the Hampshire/South Coast project team, with occasional overtime in standby on a rota. The ideal candidate holds NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation and proven low-voltage testing experience, with BS 7671 knowledge, strong record-keeping and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Recognised electrical qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
• Experience in inspection, testing and fault finding on low-voltage systems.
• Knowledge of BS 7671 and electrical testing procedures.
• Understanding of health and safety legislation including Electricity at Work.
• Ability to interpret drawings, cable records and test results.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
• Willingness to work outdoors and travel across the contract area.
• Full UK manual driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out electrical testing of private network street lighting cable systems.
• Undertake fault finding and diagnosis on private cable networks and remedial works.
• Record and report test results, maintaining required documentation.
• Assess condition of underground cable infrastructure and electrical equipment.
• Plan and deliver testing programmes with minimal public disruption.
• Operate a MEWP where required.
• Ensure compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations and safety systems of work.
• Provide high standard of customer service and professional on-site representation.
• Participate in emergency standby rota for faults and out-of-hours call-outs.

Job Title: Highways Electrician - Testing

Base Location: Fareham

Salary: From £31,094 to £34,111.34 per annum depending on skills and experience, with a Time Incentive Management (TIM) Bonus Scheme and additional benefits.

Working Pattern: Permanent - Full Time; core hours Monday to Friday 07:30‑15:30, with flexibility and out‑of‑hours standby on rota.

Overview

This role is part of the ongoing street lighting works in Hampshire and Southampton on the South Coast PFI. It requires carrying out electrical testing, fault finding, reporting and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Carry out electrical testing of private network street lighting cable systems according to company procedures and industry standards.
• Undertake fault finding and diagnosis on private cable networks, identifying defects and recommending or carrying out remedial works.
• Record and report test results accurately, maintaining required documentation.
• Assess the condition of underground cable infrastructure and associated electrical equipment to support safe and reliable operation.
• Work closely with operational teams to plan and deliver testing programmes with minimal public disruption.
• Operate a Mobile Elevated Working Platform (MEWP) where required.
• Ensure all work complies with the Electricity at Work Regulations, Health & Safety legislation and company safe systems of work.
• Provide a high standard of customer service and represent the business professionally on site.
• Participate in the emergency standby rota to respond to electrical faults and emergency call‑outs outside normal hours.

Qualifications Required

• A recognised electrical qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
• Experience in electrical inspection, testing and fault finding on low‑voltage systems, ideally within the highways or street lighting sector.
• Knowledge of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and electrical testing procedures.
• Good understanding of health and safety legislation, including the Electricity at Work Regulations.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, cable records and test results.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate record‑keeping.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and travel to sites across the contract area.
• Full UK Manual Driving Licence.
• Positive, safety‑focused attitude and capacity to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice to Have

• City & Guilds 2391, 2394/2395 or equivalent Inspection & Testing qualification.
• Experience with private network or street lighting electrical distribution systems.
• MEWP (IPAF) qualification.
• NRSWA Operative accreditation.
• G39 or experience working near live electrical equipment.
