Job summary

London Borough of Newham is seeking an Engineer to join the Highways, Sustainable Transport and Parking Services team. The role focuses on delivering major highways and sustainable transport projects with advanced AutoCAD drafting and strong collaboration with contractors and consultants.

You will work on multi-million-pound schemes across the borough, supporting the Senior Engineer through design to construction while ensuring high-quality, construction-ready drawings and adherence to standards.

Qualifications

• Relevant professional experience in highway or civil engineering design and project delivery.
• Advanced AutoCAD skills and construction-ready drawings.
• Ability to work within design standards and adapt to project needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead highway design and develop detailed drawings for construction.
• Perform regular site visits and inspections.
• Develop feasible and practical highway design solutions.
• Prepare and review detailed highway drawings and technical information.
• Support project delivery from preliminary design through to construction.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants and stakeholders for project success.
• Monitor and manage contractors on site.
• Support Senior Engineer with project coordination and delivery requirements.
• Provide technical guidance to junior staff as required.
