Job summary

Cambridgeshire County Council is looking for an Asset Engineer to join the Asset Strategy & Systems team and shape the future of Cambridgeshire's highway network. You will use asset management principles to invest wisely and support long-term maintenance plans, delivering improvements across roads, footways, cycle routes and rights of way.

You’ll work with colleagues, contractors, councillors and communities to turn plans into successful projects, balancing budgets, risks and programme delivery

Qualifications

  • You will have an HNC in Civil Engineering or related discipline, or significant relevant experience.
  • Experience of planning, developing or delivering highway, infrastructure or asset management projects.
  • Good understanding of highway maintenance and asset management principles.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
  • Experience of working with contractors, consultants or partner organisations.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and community-focused delivery.
  • A degree in Civil Engineering or professional registration such as Incorporated or Chartered Engineer would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver highway maintenance and asset management projects.
  • Identify and prioritise schemes improving the network.
  • Support development of asset management strategies and policies.
  • Manage project budgets, risks and programme performance.
  • Work closely with local communities and stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports and provide technical advice.
  • Manage consultants and contractors to ensure safe, effective delivery.
  • Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement in asset management practices.
