Job summary

Dovetail and Slate Limited is seeking a Highway Maintenance Assessor for a full-time, permanent role in the West Midlands. You will assess apprentices working toward the Highways Maintenance apprenticeship standard, visiting their workplaces to track progress and support development.

You will plan reviews with employers and tutors, record evidence, and prepare learners for end-point assessment, including knowledge tests and practical tasks such as bitumen laying, kerb laying, and modular paving.

Qualifications

• Hands-on highway maintenance experience or equivalent.
• Ability to mentor and support learners to develop practical skills.
• Comfortable working outdoors with skilled tradespeople.
• Able to build strong working relationships with employers, tutors and apprentices.

Responsibilities

• Assessing apprentices' progress in road maintenance skills such as surface repair and kerb and pavement maintenance.
• Conducting regular reviews with apprentice, employer and tutor to discuss progress.
• Helping apprentices gather off-the-job hours, functional skills and evidence for Gateway.
• Preparing learners for end-point assessment, including knowledge tests and practical tasks (bitumen, kerb, paving).
• Confirming learner competency with the employer ahead of Gateway.

Are you an experienced highway maintenance professional looking to share your skills with the next generation of technicians?

About the Role

As a Highway Maintenance Assessor, you'll assess apprentices working towards their Highways Maintenance apprenticeship standard, visiting them in the workplace to track their progress and support their development.

You'll join a further education provider in the West Midlands, working closely with employers, tutors and apprentices to plan reviews, record evidence of progress and prepare learners for their end-point assessment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assessing apprentices' progress in essential road maintenance skills, including surface repair and kerb and pavement maintenance.

• Conducting regular reviews with the apprentice, employer and tutor to discuss progress and achievements.

• Supporting apprentices to gather the off-the-job learning hours, functional skills and record of evidence needed to reach Gateway.

• Preparing apprentices for their end-point assessment, including the knowledge test and the practical task covering bitumen laying, kerb laying, and concrete or modular paving.

• Confirming learner competency alongside the employer ahead of Gateway.

Essential Qualification

• A relevant qualification in highway maintenance, or significant industry experience
