Job summary

Calibre Search is seeking a Senior Highway Engineer to join the Highways & Transportation team in North Leeds. You will lead design on major UK/Irish transport schemes, from feasibility to detailed design, construction support and long-term asset management.

The role requires 3+ years post-graduate experience, Chartered status or progression towards, and strong knowledge of design standards. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• Minimum 3 years' experience in transportation/highways design.
• Chartered Engineer status (or working towards chartership).
• Strong knowledge of relevant standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, MCHW).
• Experience preparing works contract documentation and specifications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced consultancy environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and professional judgement.
• Fluent or highly proficient in written and spoken English.

An Established multi-disciplinary, working on major projects across the UK & Ireland is looking for a Senior Highway Engineer to join its Highways & Transportation team in North Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to play a key role in the delivery of major UK and Irish transport infrastructure projects, while progressing their technical and leadership career within a growing team.

The role would suit a motivated professional with over 3 years' post-graduate experience, strong design capability, and a desire to work on complex, high-profile transportation schemes focusing on multi-million pound design and build schemes.

The Role

• Highways and major roads
• Bridges and structures
• Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
• Active travel (cycleways and pedestrian schemes)

Projects span the full asset lifecycle, from early feasibility and modelling through detailed design, construction support, and long-term asset management.

Senior Highway Engineer Responsibilities
