Job summary

Birmingham City Council is hiring Highway Enforcement Officers to join the Highway Enforcement Team within the Regulation and Enforcement Division. The role is permanent and sits in the Grade C pay band.

You will investigate highway-related offences, gather evidence, issue notices, and prepare case files for legal proceedings while helping ensure roads and public spaces remain safe and accessible. A full driving licence is required and the council offers training and development opportunities as

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills.
• Good judgement and the confidence to handle challenging situations.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Previous enforcement experience in a relevant area.
• A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is required.

Responsibilities

• Investigate highway offences, gather evidence and take regulatory action in line with highway and street-scene legislation.
• Investigate obstructions and unlawful occupation of the highway, monitor permits and licences, issue statutory notices, and prepare case files to support legal proceedings.
• Help improve compliance, address misuse of the highway and keep Birmingham’s streets and public spaces safe and accessible.
