Job Summary

This series exists to provide and preserve a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications listed below.

Job Duties

1. Highway Operations Worker: $18.19 Grade 14
   Entry level position involving operation of motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care, landscape care, roadside shoulder restoration, signing and striping, delivery of equipment and materials, environmental compliance, vehicle and equipment care.
2. Highway Operations Tech 1: $20.46/hr. Grade 17
   Apprentice classification with training to perform advanced duties similar to the Highway Operations Worker, including operation of vehicles and equipment, pavement and landscape care, roadside repairs, signing and striping, delivery, environmental compliance, and vehicle care.
3. Highway Operations Tech 2: $22.45/hr. Grade 18
   Responsible for intermediate highway operational duties and/or lead responsibilities, including scheduling, overseeing work, inspecting, training, and guiding staff.
4. Highway Operations Tech 3: $24.44/hr. Grade 19
   Full journey classification with high-level highway operation duties and supervisory responsibilities, including all tasks listed above with additional leadership roles.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Highway Operations Worker: 6 months of related experience including operation of motorized vehicles, pavement care, signings, landscape care, etc.

Highway Operations Tech 1: 1 year of related experience with similar duties.

Highway Operations Tech 2: 2 years of related experience.

Highway Operations Tech 3: 3 years of related experience.

Selective Preference(s)

Requirements for all positions: Must obtain Arizona CDL (Class A) within specified timeframes, including endorsements for tanker vehicles.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Registration with FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse required. Must respond to emergency call outs, capable of lifting/carrying 50 lbs., and possess a valid driver’s license and insurance as per requirements.
