We are seeking an experiencedand passionate Band 7 Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to joinour Secure CAMHS team based at Wetherby Young Offenders Institute. The postholder will be responsible for the assessment, differential diagnosis,intervention and management of the communication needs of young people withcomplex mental health, communication, and neurodevelopmental needs within thesecure estate.
The postholder will providedirect clinical input at Wetherby YOI and offer consultation to two securechildrens homes within the wider secure estate. The role requires closeliaison with multi-disciplinary professionals across health, education, socialcare, and custodial services. You will be working within a supportivemultidisciplinary team including other Speech and Language Therapists,Psychology, Psychiatry, Mental Health Practioners and Social Work colleagues.

You will work within anintegrated healthcare team and will represent CAMHS within the YOI. You willdeliver a flexibile and autonomous, highly specialist service to provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and interventionfor young people presenting with speech, language, and communication needs. Youwill also need to communicate complex information related to your assessment toyoung people, carers, families and members of the multidisciplinary team. Youwill be required to contribute to risk formulation and trauma-informed careplanning in line with best practice guidance.
You will provide expertconsultation, advice, and training to colleagues within Secure CAMHS and staffacross the secure estate. As part of your role you will promote inclusivecommunication strategies to reduce barriers and support rehabilitation and engagement.You will also be required to support service development initiatives andcontribute to clinical governance processes.

JOB SUMMARY
The post holder will be a senior therapist within the intensive supportteam, based in an identified locality they will also provide senior support toSpeech and Language therapists in other localities providing support and adviceand where required direct input into complex and high risk cases.
The post holder will work within the intensive support teamcontributing to multi disciplinary assessmentfor individuals in crisis or at high risk within the community.
The post holder will contribute to a continuous pathway for serviceusers in-reaching into the inpatient unit where required.
The postholder will be a source of expertise around dysphasia and riskassessment and provide support and advice to others.
KEYRESULT AREAS:
Clinical
The post-holder independently assesses,diagnoses and manages the communication and/or swallowing needs of clients, inparticular those with the most complex difficulties, including those withchallenging behaviour, to maximise appropriate health and social benefits. Itwill also include the management of clients for whom English is not the firstspoken language.
As a member of the intensive supportteam the post holder provides aneffective and responsive service working alongside the other team members tomeet the needs of individuals experiencing a crisis.
The post-holder provides both directand indirect intervention, consultation, advice and support; working within amulti-disciplinary model in order to ensure that the inter-agency needs ofclients are met.
The post-holder undertakes advisorywork, second opinions and provides peer review and advice within his/her areaof expertise to support and develop the clinical skills of other staff.
In conjunction with other band 7 SLT thepost- holder provides clinical supervision for other SLT posts working crosslocalities and this includes where appropriate providing direct input intocomplex cases
The post-holder liaises both orally andin writing with any significant others involved in the management of theclient, within and outside the NHS, to ensure the clients needs are meteffectively and efficiently.
The post-holder contributes todiscussion in a multi-disciplinary forum where speech and language therapyrecommendations may conflict with medical/other opinion. This is in order to facilitate quality oflife and best interest decisions..
The post-holder is responsible formanaging his/her own caseload, including clinical administration andappointments, in order to meet access criteria and ensure a cost-effective,quality service.
The post-holder has autonomousresponsibility for maintaining accurate and contemporaneous (within 24 hours)client records, in order to ensure compliance with departmental, professionaland legal requirements.
The post-holder is expected to workwith clients with challenging behaviour independently and work alone in thecommunity conducting the appropriate risk assessments as required
ServiceDevelopment
The post-holder is aware of currentlocal and national priorities, which may impact upon service delivery andcontributes to the development of strategies for meeting needs.

The post-holder takes part in clinicalresearch opportunities and/or leads or collaborates on the writing of articlesand publications relevant to their specialist field.
Clinical Governance
Thepost-holder adheres to the standards in place within the BDU under thepillars of clinical governance, including audit, evaluation and theidentification and management of risk in any environment (clinical andnon-clinical).
Thepost-holder is subject to annual appraisal and regular supervision.
Thepost-holder is expected to provide clinical supervision for a range of lessexperienced staff, including assistants, newly qualified therapists andothers as appropriate.
ResourceManagement
Physicalresources: the post-holder identifies and manages appropriate serviceequipment requirements and is responsible for security, maintenance andtransportation of clinical resources in the team, including keepinginventories as appropriate.
Thepost-holder assists non-NHS colleagues in the identification of suitableresources to support and develop communication and safe swallowing.
Training
Thepost-holder identifies, writes, delivers and develops packages of trainingwithin his /her specialist clinical area, in order to advise, educate andempower multi-disciplinary groups and families/carers to both enhance andsupport effective communication and safe swallowing.
Thepost-holder identifies and pursues appropriate and relevant ContinuingProfessional Development (CPD) opportunities from a variety of sources inorder to keep his/her professional knowledge up-to-date.
Thepost-holder provides practical procedural instruction (both clinical andnon-clinical) to a range of more junior staff (both qualified andunqualified).
On arotational basis, the post-holder supervises clinical placements forundergraduate speech and language therapists in order to assist HigherEducation Institutes
The post-holderis expected to work with clients with challenging behaviour independently andwork alone in the community conducting the appropriate risk assessments asrequired.
