Job description

Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist - Autism Team Lead

Provide highly specialist assessment, diagnosis, and intervention to children and young people with Autism and other speech, language, and communication needs. Maintain and update knowledge of the Early Years and school-age curriculum to enable effective goal setting. Attend relevant training to develop skills and maintain up-to-date HCPC and RCSLT registration. Provide mentoring, advice, and support to other Speech and Language Therapists and assistants to ensure consistent management of clients. Provide student placements and assess their progress as appropriate. Offer second opinions and specialist advice to ensure consistency in managing children and young people with Autism. Explain the role of Speech and Language Therapists to visitors, students, and volunteers. Coordinate support for students from other professional groups within the team. Identify training needs within the team and plan opportunities to address them. Disseminate current research within the specialist area to team members. Contribute to the recruitment of new staff. Advise colleagues on clinical issues and facilitate problem-solving within the service and with external professionals. Use presentation skills to promote interagency liaison and collaborative practice with audiences such as Head Teachers, SEN Officers, and other professionals. Contribute to managing complaints and incidents, ensuring learning is embedded. Attend Autism working groups and service development forums, and lead delegated projects. Lead internal meetings within the clinical field. Monitor and evaluate service delivery and provide progress reports to relevant stakeholders. Be accountable for own professional actions, recognizing boundaries and seeking advice when needed. Work independently within an Individual Performance Framework. **Clinical Responsibilities:** Assess, develop, and implement highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy services for children with social communication differences and Autism. Write detailed reports, including Education, Health, and Social Care plans and Tribunal reports. Provide appropriate interventions and evaluate outcomes. Offer advice and second opinions regarding management and care. Use specialist interpretive techniques and adapt practices to individual client circumstances. Make clinical judgments based on evidence from assessments. Develop management plans in collaboration with children, parents, and education staff, based on best practices. Reflect on practice with peers and supervisors to identify strengths and areas for development. Attend specialist courses and advanced training in Autism, SLCN, and mental health.
