Job summary

An exciting opportunity to become the Lead Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. In this role, you will manage the South locality team in the Social Communication Pathway, developing a diagnostic pathway for children and young people. Candidates should be experienced in neurodevelopmental assessments and ready to support clinical services for children.

Qualifications

Job overview

This post represents an exciting opportunity to become the Lead highly specialist speech and language therapist, managing the South locality team in the Social Communication Pathway (SCP) in Manchester CAMHS. The postholder will be responsible for helping to develop the ND pathway, working across disciplines and agencies in the community to provide the best clinical care to children and young people and their families. The postholder will have experience of completing neurodevelopmental assessments and drawing together a diagnostic formulation and will be expected to work closely with the two other leads to ensure diagnostic services are equitable and transparent across the city. The postholder will also be expected to take a lead in developing the SCP pre assessment offer as part of the wider community pathway approach.

Main duties of the job
  • To lead the team providing ND assessment to South locality, in line with service specifications and NICE guidance and with the support of the Strategic Lead for LDA.
  • To line manage the MDT assessment team in the south locality
  • To supervise speech and language therapists working in SCP across the city
  • To work alongside clinical leads for Occupational Therapy and Mental Health who support the o north and south Social Communication Pathways to ensure assessment across the city for children and young people with social communication difficulties is transparent, fair and equitable and to engage in strategic development of the pathway model
  • To complete diagnostic assessments as required, offer training and consultation as required

Person specification
Qualifications
  • Speech and Language Degree
  • Post-qualification registration with appropriate regulatory body
  • Post-doctoral/qualification training course in an area of specialist practice relating to ND or speech therapy e.g. PG CERT in LDA
Experience
  • Experience of working as a specialist speech and language therapist with CYP who have ND for at least 3 years
  • Significant experience in assessment of social communication/neurodevelo pmental difficulties
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment independently and within a multidisciplinary and multiagency context.
  • Experience of consulting with health care and other professionals and working within multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
  • Knowledge of legislation and national guidance in relation to the needs of children and young people
  • Working knowledge of professional systems involved in work with children
  • Experience of working autonomously as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Training in ADI or ADOS or other autism related assessment tools
