Job description


A exciting opportunity for a band 7 Lead Speech and Language Therapist has arisen at the Homerton Hospital working on the Graham Stroke Unit . The role offers the post holder the opportunity to develop their clinical and leadership skills and experience managing a varied and complex inpatient stroke caseload within a supportive and dynamic MDT environment.

The post holder will have the opportunity to develop their existing skills in the management of acute dysphagia as well as delivering specialist rehabilitation for patients on the stroke units along with some medical outliers. There will also opportunity to develop VF and FEES skills for the appropriate candidate.

You will have evidence of your commitment to trust values and significant postgraduate experience in rehabilitation, stroke and neurology. You will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills which will allow you to be an effective team member, and either be working at band 7 level, or ready to develop your leadership skills at Band 7 level. You will be committed to your own development and the development of those around you.

The post holder will be responsible for the SLT clinical management of patients, and also providing clinical leadership and coordination as part of the senior MDT. The post holder will develop skills and knowledge in working with AAC, complex client management including family support and engagement, cognitive-communication disorders and behaviour management, project working, training and working with community services, supervising junior members of staff including rehabilitation assistants.

Homerton is a centre of excellence for neurological rehabilitation and we actively engage with quality improvement and research across our neurospecialist pathway. HTNRU sits within Homerton’s neurological rehabilitation services including the Graham Stroke Unit, Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (level 1 unit), AHP consultant in Neuro Rehabilitation, Neuro Navigation service, RNRU Outreach, Early Supported Discharge (ESD) for stroke and neurology within the Integrated Independence Team, Adult Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team, and specialist AHP lead for spasticity and neuro Orthotic Clinics.

We have strong rehabilitation services in Hackney, enhanced by close working links between community and acute teams.
