Job summary

We are excited to offer a fixed-term, 1-year, 0.5 WTE Band 7 Speech and Language Therapy role to cover maternity leave.

You will work closely with Service Managers to deliver services to early years and school-age children with speech, language, and communication needs arising from deafness. Your role includes supporting children and young people in various settings such as nurseries, schools, at home, and in specialist units. Collaboration with teachers of the deaf to target interventions is essential. You will also provide second opinions and advice to colleagues in autism and may deliver training to parents and staff.

Main duties of the job

You will lead the development of objectives or projects related to deafness, supported by Clinical Managers, and assist peers and less experienced staff in implementation. You will offer highly specialist support and knowledge in deafness within the speech and language service, including providing second opinions to other professionals.

You will serve as a lead specialist in the assessment of children with deafness, diagnosing speech, language, and communication needs. Planning and implementing highly specialist intervention programs for these children will be part of your responsibilities.

You will provide expert advice to parents, carers, educational staff, students, and the SLT team regarding deafness, cochlear implants, and communication methods. Additionally, you will promote and train others in the use of AAC, including signed supported English, BSL, and other augmentative communication systems.
