Job description

Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Bristol & Ashfield

To provide specialist assessments and interventions for the neurodiverse population with complex communication needs, including Autism, ADHD, Learning Disability, Acquired Brain Injury, and Dementia.

The role involves managing your own caseload independently, accessing regular clinical and managerial supervision, and championing the SLT profession. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, representing the Speech and Language Therapy Service at meetings and working parties.

You will provide specialist advice to prison officers, other speech and language therapists, professionals, and stakeholders, ensuring involvement of carers and families where appropriate. The role emphasizes compassionate, empathetic, and respectful care.

Management Responsibilities
  • Induct, train, review work performance, and clinically supervise colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development of service policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in service development meetings and working groups.
  • Plan and deliver training for prison, education, and healthcare staff.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Deliver evidence-based assessments, interventions, and evaluations.
  • Monitor care packages, including direct therapy, advice, and training.
  • Utilize specialist approaches such as Talking Mats.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary assessments and prepare communication passports.
  • Carry out Capacity to Consent Assessments in line with the Mental Capacity Act.
  • Participate in professionals meetings and monitor clinical effectiveness and outcomes.
Legal and Policy Knowledge

Maintain knowledge of relevant procedures and policies, including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Liberty Protection Safeguards, and safeguarding frameworks.

Health & Safety

Follow guidelines regarding working conditions, including exposure to bodily fluids and lone visits.

Additional Information
