Job summary

Would you like to work in a dynamic, ethnically diverse, NHS community paediatric Speech and Language Therapy team who prioritise training and supervision?

Our Speech and Language Therapy Team situated in the London Borough of Redbridge have an exciting opportunity for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join us on a part-time basis to work in our Mainstream Schools Team.

We are a well-established service serving a diverse London community. This post will ideally suit an established Band 7 speech and language therapist looking for a new challenge or a band 6 therapist wishing to develop their skills and progress to a band 7 role pending meeting competencies.

Working as part of the team you will provide a service for children aged 4-18 presenting with a range of speech, language and communication difficulties within mainstream schools settings.

You will be leading the team to develop the mainstream schools and Buy-in Schools provision and care pathway in Redbridge.

Main duties of the job

The Speech and Language Therapy Service in Redbridge operates within a multi-disciplinary team for children with additional needs and disabilities.

Candidates will need to demonstrate the following requirements:

  • A recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent and relevant professional registration.
  • Providing an advanced standard of assessment, clinical diagnosis, treatment and management of communication difficulties in children.
  • Devising and delivering appropriate, highly specialist intervention/care plans of speech and language therapy for clients.
  • Experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist in Mainstream Schools.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as an effective multi-disciplinary team member.
  • Experience in supervising other team members.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period.

High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,714 and a maximum payment of £5,941) pro rata for part time staff.

Job responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the post:

  • Taking a lead role in providing and developing the SLT assessment service to school-aged children with speech, language and communication needs and an intervention service to those schools choosing to buy-in SLT in the borough of Redbridge.
  • Independently manage own and others workload in the day-to-day allocation of work.
  • Work closely with clients carers, families and professionals to raise awareness, knowledge and skills related to the range of strategies that improve speech, language and communication outcomes across settings.
  • Making highly specialist clinical decisions following assessment of complex cases.
  • Planning and implementing specialist packages of support and intervention.
  • Providing clinical support/supervision for SLTs working in clinic and mainstream school settings.
  • Working in the context of a multi- disciplinary team in health, social care and education services in Redbridge.
  • Provide specialist knowledge, advice, training and teaching to parents, carers, students and speech and language therapy team
Person Specification

Essential Experience:

  • Experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist working in Mainstream schools including appropriate assessments, treatment programmes and the use of augmentative communication systems and communication aids.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates professional knowledge as evidenced by 1st degree level or qualification or equivalent HCPC registration Membership of RCSLT Membership of relevant specialist interest group

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to critically analyse the validity of assessments and interventions and clearly communicates the results to parents/carers/colleagues
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills,verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work as an effective multi-disciplinary team member
