Job description

Overview

The Paediatric Tier 3 complications in excess weight (CEW) service uses a holistic approach to treating conditions related to obesity in children and young people. Young people will receive 12 to 18 months of intensive treatment from the MDT with the aim to improving health complications linked to their weight. Referrals to CEW for young people aged 2 - 18 years old are based on the degree of obesity and the presence of comorbidities.

This post will support the Nottinghamshire out-patient clinics based at NUH and will also provide virtual support (and occasional visits) to spoke sites including Derby, Lincoln, Boston and Mansfield. There are also opportunities to work within the community (home and school visits) to promote inclusivity for CEW patients, encouraging physical activity and reducing sedentary behaviours.

The post is 0.5 wte (18.75 hours). We require cover on a Thursday and the remaining 2 days of hours ideally need to be on a Friday and Tuesday/Wednesday. However, we are open to further discussion around days and will accept a minimum of 0.4 wte (15 hours).

You will also support planned paediatric in-patient weekend rosters and be an integral member of our established Children\'s Therapy team based in the Nottingham Children\'s Hospital at the QMC campus of NUH.

Main duties of the job

You will be an expert clinical advisor within obesity and will provide assessment and advice/treatment to Children, Young people and their families who attend the East Midlands CEW Clinics.

You will have the opportunity to deliver a structured education program to a cohort of CEW patients.

You will provide education and training within the MDT.

You will work within an experienced MDT (including consultants, clinical fellow, dietitian, social worker, specialist nurse, clinical psychologist, family support worker).

You will work in partnership with the Leicestershire Physiotherapist to identify, develop and provide innovative ways to address obesity among our young population. As such, service evaluation will be a key element to allow the team to showcase the success of the service.

There may be opportunity to work alongside a Band 4 Physio Assistant Practitioner who you will provide clinical supervision to.

The CEW service is currently within a pilot stage and there are opportunities to collect, analyse and present data at both a national and local level.
