We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 SLT at Paddock Special School. This role is ideal for people who are interested in developing their clinical skills at Band 7 level and contributing to the development of the service.

  • Experience of, and specialist skills working with, a diverse paediatric caseload 4-18 years old
  • Experience in developing and delivering universal and / or targeted level offers to special schools and/or resource bases
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-agency team
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently where necessary
  • Enthusiasm, imagination, and initiative
  • Understanding of the neurodiversity framework
Main duties of the job
  • To contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of service delivery within the Special Schools team.
  • To demonstrate highly specialist clinical skills in an area relevant to the team you work in
  • To lead/supervise others within the service and to act as a resource and support for other therapists working with children with speech, language, and social communication difficulties.
  • To be responsible for the management of a caseload of children with learning difficulties social communication difficulties
  • To provide line management to junior staff and SLTAs and participate in and provide clinical supervision and support as required.
  • To work with parents, carers, school staff and other agencies involved in the children's care as well as part of a multi-agency team.

The Children's Therapy team consists of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists. Therapists work in multi-disciplinary/multi agency teams across the borough of Wandsworth.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience of working with children with special needs in an educational or multi-disciplinary setting (e.g. clinic)
  • Experience working with therapy assistants and delegating
  • Experience of working collaboratively with teaching staff and the wider MDT
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group
  • Well established knowledge of a range of standardised and functional assessment tools relevant to the client group
  • Understanding of the neurodiversity affirming framework and how this applies to working with children with SLCN
