We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist who is passionate about working with children and young people.

This role is a permanent contract (0.6WTE) 22.5 hours/week working Wednesday - Friday

You will be part of the wider Neurosciences & Oncology in and out-patient team,with a particular focus on children in our Brain Injury Living Life Team (BRILL team). This is a specialist service working with children and young people from across the East Midlands admitted to Nottingham Children's Hospital following diagnosis of an acquired brain injury. You will also support cross cover throughout our Childrens OT team where needed.

You will join an enthusiastic research led specialist service, working flexibly in conjunction with Band 7 peers and the wider therapy neurosciences team, to provide teaching and training as well as managing your own complex caseload. You will be expected to work collaboratively with the senior leadership team to ensure adherence to national guidelines, best therapy practice, and employ an evidence-based approach to implement service development.

As part of the wider Childrens Occupational Therapy team you will be asked to support a rostered weekend working service to support our more straight forward MSK in-patient discharges. This is approximately 1 on-call morning every 2 months. We will support you to ensure you have the basic competencies to do this confidently.

Main duties of the job

You Will:

  • Work closely with the MDT whilst delivering a high standard of Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention with an Inpatient and Outpatient caseload.
  • Have experience or transferable skills of working with children and young people with Neurological conditions including oncology.
  • Manage a complex clinical caseload.
  • Work closely with community colleagues across the region to support with the discharge and ongoing rehabilitation for children and young people neurological conditions.
  • Help develop and lead service improvements within the Neurosciences service, and the wider Children's Occupational Therapy service.

About Us

The Nottingham Children's Hospital (NCH) is based at the Queens Medical Centre campus and Neonatal care is supported on both the QMC and City campus'.We provide In-patient and out-patient care for children up to the age of 19 years old.

With 97 beds, we care for around 40,000 children each year from Nottinghamshire and beyond, treating a full range of conditions, including planned and emergency treatment and surgery, Burns and Plastics, Neurological conditions, Oncology, Paediatric critical care, Renal conditions and transplantation, and Spinal and Orthopaedic care.

The Children's Therapy team at NCH is a friendly and supportive department who work closely alongside the wider MDT, providing excellent evidence based care and innovative ways of working.

  • BSc Hons (or equivalent) Occupational Therapy
  • Full Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registration
  • Recognised post -graduate training relevant to specialty preferably including MSc or completed modules

Experience

Essential

  • Wide ranging and extensive experience of working within specialist area or clear ability to demonstrate value of transferrable knowledge and skills to specialist area.
  • Knowledge of management processes to be able to provide 1st line management
  • Able to evaluate current research and make recommendations for change in practice and implement these changes
