Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced dietitian to join our gastrointestinal services dietetic team within the clinical area of intestinal failure and intestinal rehabilitation to cover a maternity leave. This post is based at the main St. George's site in Tooting. The successful candidate will work alongside the Clinical Lead Intestinal Failure / Rehabilitation dietitian and the wider gastroenterology team. They will be a key member of the MDT and responsible for delivering a highly specialised dietetic service to complex intestinal failure and rehabilitation patients. St. George's and St. Mark's, the National Reference Centre for Intestinal Rehabilitation, were designated as a joint centre for West London in 2022, making it an exciting time to join our team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience within gastrointestinal conditions and nutrition support, with experience in effective collaboration within MDTs. The ability to prioritise and adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment, work as part of a team, and provide excellent patient-centred care is essential. The role offers opportunities to engage in audit and contribute to the trust’s teaching programs. Experience in clinical audit and quality improvement is desirable.

The wider dietetic department at St George's NHS Foundation Trust comprises over 60 dietitians providing inpatient and outpatient services across various specialties including cancer, renal, neurology, haematology, paediatrics, cardiology, trauma, gastroenterology, surgery, and diabetes. The department is committed to training and education, actively participating in staff development programs, with numerous opportunities for professional growth.

St George's, Epsom, and St Helier University Hospitals form a group caring for a population of four million in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George's Hospital, a major trauma centre and the largest healthcare provider in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit; and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children. Additional information

Post details include Band 7 salary (£54,320 to £60,981 per annum), fixed-term contract for 7 months, full-time hours, based at St George's Hospital, Tooting.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential): BSc/Postgraduate diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics, HCPC registration.

Desirable qualifications: Postgraduate training in clinical specialty, membership of BDA and relevant groups.

Experience (Essential): Postgraduate experience in acute/community dietetics at a specialist level, MDT working, teaching experience.

Desirable experience: Significant experience in intestinal failure or parenteral nutrition.

Skills (Essential): Excellent communication skills, workload prioritisation.

Knowledge (Essential): NHS dietetics knowledge, Master's level or equivalent in specialty.

Desirable knowledge: Postgraduate training in intestinal failure/rehabilitation.
