Job summary

Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust seeks an experienced Dietitian to deliver dietetic services across two facilities: a broad clinic and specialized unit. You will perform comprehensive assessments, identify nutrition needs and plan interventions for individuals with neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions.

The role requires HCPC registration, post‑registration experience in complex neurodevelopmental cases, and strong MDT collaboration to ensure integrated care

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Dietetics/Nutrition & Dietetics, with relevant registration.
  • Registered Dietitian with HCPC.
  • Post-registration experience and/or training in neurodevelopmental disorders or complex presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dietetic assessments and interventions for service users with neurodevelopmental, mental and physical health needs.
  • Develop and monitor nutrition plans; supervise prescribed diets and assess effects.
  • Collaborate with MDT; attend meetings and coordinate treatment plans.
  • Support transition planning from inpatient to community settings; advocate for service users and families.

Job description

  • To provide Dietetic services across two services based at Little Plumstead Hospital: the Broadland Clinic (medium secure unit) and Astley Court (assessment and treatment unit)
  • To undertake a comprehensive dietetic assessment of service users with learning disabilities, including those with diverse or highly complex presentation/multiple pathologies in order to identify their nutritional problems and needs and ensure that a holistic approach is taken. This includes identification of nutrition and dietetic diagnoses, a plan for nutrition and dietetic intervention and monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the plan.
  • To offer a range of dietetic interventions appropriate to individuals with neurodevelopmental, mental and physical health needs.
  • To advise on and supervise prescribed diets assessing, recording and reporting desired and non-desired effects.
  • To act as an advocate for the service user and family ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services.
  • To recognise the need when to request the help of the other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To support the co-ordination of treatment plans within the caseload to ensure a high standard of multidisciplinary care.
  • To participate in the planning of transition from inpatient to community services where needed.
  • Main duties of the job To be responsible for the development and delivery of an evidenced based dietetic service To provide inpatient dietetic services for clients with neurodevelopmental disorders and coexisting mental and physical health conditions in a flexible manner, maintaining effective communication with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. To participate in team meetings and other meetings as requested. To liaise with catering departments and ward staff Use high level skills to identify and overcome barriers to change using interviewing, counselling and motivational skills. This will require well developed skills in negotiation, persuasion, tact and diplomacy which may include group work and one to one contacts. To work with service users, their families/carers observing their unique individual requirements and needs. To participate in Clinical Supervision. To maintain clinical records in line with Trust requirements and to maintain a record of work activities as required by the manager and the information department. To be actively involved in collection of appropriate data and statistics for the use of the department and in line with the requirements of the Trust. To comply with professional Code of Conduct at all times.
  • BSc or MSc in Dietetics / Nutrition & Dietetics
  • Registered Dietitian with HCPC
  • Relevant post-registration experience and/or training in neurodevelopmental disorders, Experience of specialist dietetic assessment and treatment with service users presenting high levels of complexity and difficulty.
