Highly Specialist Clinician (Family Therapist) and Senior Lecturer

We are excited to announce a new and unique opportunity to join our team in a dual role for a Highly Specialised Systemic Family Psychotherapist and a Senior Lecturer. This newly created position offers the chance to contribute both clinically and academically within a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment.

The successful candidate will bring advanced expertise in systemic and family psychotherapy to deliver high-quality therapeutic services, working with individuals, couples, and families across a range of complex cases. Simultaneously, they will hold a key academic role within our teaching faculty, contributing to the delivery, and development of postgraduate training programmes in systemic practice and related disciplines.

As a Senior Lecturer, the postholder will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, research, and clinical supervision. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced and innovative practitioner-educator to influence both service delivery and professional training, while advancing the field of systemic psychotherapy.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Post

The post holder will hold a complex caseload within the multi-disciplinary team, undertaking a range of clinical assessments and offering highly skilled treatments or therapies that are outcome focused, and evidence based, using appropriate therapeutic modalities. You will review cases where patients have impasses, complaints or disputes with their clinical care.

You will provide consultation to external agencies such as GPs/schools/Local authorities and expert consultation and specialist psychological advice to other staff and agencies outside the Trust

The post holder will communicate complex information in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, at times dealing with service users who may be hostile or present challenging behaviours.

The position of Senior Lecturer has been introduced to enable flexible delivery within a portfolio of courses, and where appropriate, across portfolios. It aims to facilitate the post holder in implementing a wide range of skills within an integrated post. At senior level, the post holder will be required to undertake a leadership role in relation to an aspect of course delivery such as module leadership; assessment; recruitment etc.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Systemic and Family Psychotherapist Masters Level Qualification.
  • Registration with AFT and UKCP as a Systemic & Family Psychotherapist
  • Appropriately qualified to teach the discipline at the required academic leve
  • UKCP and AFT registered Systemic Psychotherapist and supervisor.
  • A Professional Doctorate in Systemic Psychotherapy
Experience
  • Evidence of substantial clinical experience of working with client population.
  • A clear track record of managing complexity and risk whilst maintaining high standards of service delivery
  • A comprehensive understanding of the changing NHS and Social Care environment and the challenges they face.
  • Experience of working at all levels of the system with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Expertise of managing and treating the client group.
  • Experience of systemic clinical supervision, particularly within a Family Therapy Clinic.
  • Substantial experience of teaching students in higher education.
  • Post qualification experience as required by the relevant professional and regulatory body (will need over 2 years postqualification to undertake Systemic Supervisor Training).
  • Experience of academic research and supervision, as required by the Trust and/or relevant validating body.
  • Understanding and experience of research and supervision of projects addressed to questions of equity, equality, diversity, inclusion, disadvantage, discrimination etc.
  • Some experience of clinical management of staff
  • Some experience of involvement in project work e.g. quality improvement
  • Experience of doctoral supervision preferably with one or more completions.
  • Experience of quality assurance, academic governance and the student experience
  • Experience of doctoral examining
  • Track record of writing for publication and engaging in scholarly activity
Skills
  • High level of skill and knowledge in safeguarding and risk management.
  • Ability to manage own clinical case load.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and ability to convey complex ideas in clinical, teaching and learning environments with flexibility, agility and creativity.
  • Capacity to engage students from a wide range of educational, cultural and social backgrounds and ensure issues of equality, diversity and inclusion are attended to across all aspects of role.
  • Able to manage own time, and plan workload of administration team members effectively, to ensure completion of tasks.
  • Able to analyse complex problems and develop practical and workable solutions to address them
  • Able to effectively build and manage constructive relationships with clinical team, faculty, staff and students; encouraging an open dialogue with team members. To be a team player.
  • High level of attention to detail and awareness of the relevant regulations, policies and procedures applicable to the clinical and academic nature of the role.
  • Proficiency in the use of a range of Microsoft Office Programmes to Intermediate levels including advanced keyboard skills.
