Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist to join the Secondary Care Psychological Therapies Service (SCPTS) in Tameside and Glossop. This is a permanent, full time (1.0 WTE) post.

The team base is located in Haughton Mews, Stamford Street, Ashton-under-Lyne. The team is cohesive and connected, and values innovation, collaboration and peer support. It consists of a lively and committed mix of Clinical Psychologists and Psychological Therapists who are trained in a range of therapies. We offer individual and group therapies to service users and work closely with the Community Mental Health Teams in the borough. We also work closely with other clinical teams including the Complex Emotional and Relational Needs Pathway.

This is an exciting time of change and transformation in the Trust. The SCPT service is involved in Community Transformation and delivering the ambitions of the Community Mental Health Framework, with a particular focus on the Psychological Therapies for Severe Mental Health Framework (PT-SMHP) paper. As part of this, the goal of SCPTS teams is to ensure that all practitioners working into our service are accredited in, or working towards accreditation in, the therapies listed in the paper. There are opportunities for the postholder to become involved in creating and developing more integrated ways of working in CMHTs.

The post holder will offer:

  1. Outpatient, evidence-based individual and/or group therapy to service users currently under the CMHTs.
  2. Consultation to CMHT staff (case discussion, team formulations, supervision, staff training and contribution to professionals’ meetings).
  3. Supervision to other psychological therapists, and/or trainee psychological therapists when appropriate.

We would be interested in Clinical Psychologists of all therapeutic modalities applying for this position. However, we are particularly interested in recruiting colleagues trained in, or interested in training in, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) as the successful applicant will spend a discrete portion of their post offering this therapeutic intervention alongside other work.

Clinical supervision will be offered to the post holder and every effort will be made for that to be aligned with your preferred therapeutic modality.

We are proud to provide high quality mental health and learning disability services, both inpatient and in the community across five boroughs of Greater Manchester - Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport and Tameside and Glossop.

Our vision is for a happier and more hopeful life for everyone in our communities and our staff work hard to deliver the very best care for the people who use our services. We’re really proud of our #PennineCarePeople and do everything we can to make sure we’re a great place to work.

All individuals regardless of race, age, disability, ethnicity, nationality, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, religion or belief, marriage and civil partnership are encouraged to apply for this post. We would also encourage applications from individuals with a lived experience of mental illness, either individually or as a carer.

If you come and work for us we will offer a range of benefits and opportunities, including:

  1. Generous annual leave entitlement for Agenda for Change and Medical and Dental staff.
  2. Flexible working opportunities to support your work/life balance.
  3. Access to Continued Professional Development.
  4. Involvement in improvement and research activities.
  5. Health and Wellbeing activities and access to an excellent staff wellbeing service.
  6. Access to staff discounts across retail, leisure and travel.

Please see attached Job Description and Person Specification for further details.

The post holder will be accountable to the Principal Clinical Psychologist/Team Manager for Secondary Care Psychological Therapies.
