Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 7 Physiologist who is BHRS (or equivalent) with suitable experience to assist in the planning and delivery of a specialised Cardiology diagnostics service to the Trust.


You will be an effective member of the Cardiology Labs team providing a high standard of Cardiac Physiological Services and excellent patient care.


We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our welcoming Aintree Cardiology Department.


We currently undertake a wide variety of non-invasive and invasive tests including:

  1. ECG
  2. Ambulatory Monitoring
  3. Tilt Table Testing
  4. Exercise Tolerance Testing
  5. Echocardiography (including Dobutamine and Exercise Stress Echo, Transoesophageal, Contrast and Bubble Studies, Specialist Valve Clinics, Advanced Imaging including Speckle Tracking and 3-D Echocardiography and Research)
  6. Cardiac Catheterisation
  7. Permanent Pacing; both implant and follow up

The candidates should have BHRS accreditation.


This is an ideal opportunity for a current band 7 seeking a change, or a forward-thinking suitably qualified Band 6 who is looking to develop their career further.


The Pacing/Rhythm management team provides:

  • Daily follow up clinics
  • Remote follow up
  • A busy Brady implant service
  • Physiologist lead ILR implant service (RLH site)
  • Physiologist ILR explant service (RLH site)
  • Services to an acute A&E department including unwell complex device patients

As a band 7, you will be a designated line manager to junior staff, completing performance and pay appraisals. There are opportunities to help lead service development as a deputy service lead.


All candidates should be RCCP / AHCS/ HCPC registered.

Responsibilities include:

  • Undertakes independently advanced Cardiac investigations and therapy.
  • Undertake direct patient contact physiology procedures.
  • Analyse, interpret, and report complex clinical data (e.g. Ambulatory Monitoring) taking necessary departmental procedure when diagnosing an unexpected event liaising/advising with medical staff.
  • To follow up and appropriately manage patients with implantable cardiac devices.
  • To document all investigations and or adjustments correctly.
  • To maintain your professional development to be up to date with new device techniques/ advances.
  • Assist the implanting consultant in pacemaker implantation, performing initial checks etc.
  • Lead and supervise within ETT areas, including obtaining patient consent. Advises the appropriate clinician when necessary.
