Job summary

Bromley Healthcare is advertising a Highly Specialist Children's Speech & Language Therapist role. This fixed-term maternity cover is 12 months at 30 hours per week, offering senior level responsibilities within the Children\'s SLT service.

The post holder will work with the Service Lead to coordinate care across the borough, provide specialist opinions, and develop service improvements while collaborating with health professionals and tertiary centres. NHS terms apply.

Due to an ever-increasing demand for our services, Bromley Healthcare's Children's SLT Service is continuing to expand our fantastic and supportive team. We are excited to be advertising this role to provide maternity cover for 12 months at a senior level in the service and look forward to hearing from SLTs with experience keen to take their next career move.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the Service Lead for Children's Speech and Language Therapy and they will join the other highly specialist speech and language therapists in coordinating care across the borough. They will be able to offer support and specialist opinion appointments for therapists in their specialism.

The post holder will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively and creatively within the Children's SLT team, with other health professionals and Tertiary Centres. She / he will be able to lead on new service developments in their field. The post holder will carry out duties as required, as outlined in the Job Description.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. To ensure the development of a competitive and highly skilled speech and language therapy team.
2. To work with the service lead to ensure that that tiered service provides a tiered model of service delivery offer universal, targeted and specialist services.
3. To develop the portfolio of assessment and intervention options.
4. To work with the service lead to develop a long term plan for service
development and expansion.
5. To deliver a range of specialist speech and language therapy assessment and intervention packages.
6. To develop and provide a specialised speech and language therapy service to patients referred with communication and/or swallowing disorders.
7. To make a differential diagnosis based on evidence from assessment, leading to decisions about intervention/treatment.
8. To communicate complex condition related information, from assessment to patients/clients, carers, families and members of the multi disciplinary team/other professions.
9. To maintain sensitivity at all times to the emotional needs of patients/clients and their carers, in particular when imparting potentially distressing information.
10. To negotiate and work closely with patients/clients, carers, families, and other professionals, agreeing decision- making and prioritisation relevant to the seeking advice from manager/supervisor for more complex cases.
11. To initiate and provide a variety of treatment options according to patients needs,
including the use of interpreters as appropriate.

  • Evidence of appropriate external and internal training up to master's level as appropriate to specialism
