Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist (Echocardiography)

We are looking for an enthusiastic Highly Specialist Echocardiographer to join our team in Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The Echocardiography department holds BSE Advanced Departmental accreditation and features the latest cardiac ultrasound equipment in an all-encompassing digital echo lab. We perform standard transthoracic echocardiography and a wide range of advanced imaging techniques, including performing DSE's/ESE's and physiology-led contrast and bubble studies. We also support a TOE service.

The department offers a wide range of invasive and non-invasive investigations. Investigations include physiologist-led exercise testing, 24 hour ECG and BP monitoring and event recording. We provide a 24-hour primary PCI service alongside complex PCI and interventional techniques, TAVI service. We operate a busy Pacemaker and ICD implant and follow up service to include the use of remote monitoring, EPS + complex ablation and mapping procedures. We also carry out Physiology led clinics. The department is a teaching Hospital and is actively involved in research. We are also participating in a number of clinical research trials. Main duties of the job

Applicants should be able to demonstrate competence and expertise in a full range of advanced echocardiography techniques. Applicants must be highly motivated, well organised, have a flexible approach to work and reliable. They should demonstrate a good understanding of issues pertinent to the education of echocardiography and be enthusiastic to both teach and learn new professional clinical skills within the field of echocardiography.

The successful applicant should also demonstrate a high level of clinical and technical expertise in Echocardiography. Hold a BSc Clinical Physiology/Healthcare science (cardiac science), hold registration with RCCP or AHCS and have a higher-level qualification i.e. BSE Adult accreditation.

Applicants that do not hold a higher level qualification and/or skills for the band 7 role will be considered, and if successful will be appointed into a training post under Annex 21 rules.

Qualifications

• BSc Clinical Physiology/Cardiac Science or equivalent. Registration Council for Clinical Physiologist (RCCP) or Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
• Education to Masters level or equivalent experience
• Evidence of relevant post graduate qualification in associated specialty i.e. BSE (British Society of Echocardiography)
• Responsible for ensuring health and safety knowledge and skills are maintained, updated and developed Excellent computer literacy skills to include the use of microsoft office and information and planning systems for analysis. Advanced clinical skills
• Awareness of Modernisation of Scientific Careers (MSC) and associated training
• Experience and proven competence of performing the range of advanced and complex investigations. Reporting of clinical findings autonomously.
• Participation in relevant local and national professional bodies.
• Leadership qualities and ability to act independently and initiate any appropriate action within the echo service. Experience of performing and interpreting a wide range of cardiac investigations.
• Experience of working within a cardiac catheterisation suite. Experience working as a Specialist Cardiac Physiologist.
• Experience of managing high risk cases and dealing with life threatening arrhythmias. Demonstrate CPD.
• Confident at liaising with medical, technical, nursing and industry staff.
• Ability to assess, analyse, collate and interpret highly complex patient data.
