Job description

Overview

We are looking to recruit a Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist / Clinical Scientist at Band 7 level to join our Cardiac Ultrasound team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a BSE-accredited department dedicated to supporting team development and delivering the highest standard of care to service users. The successful candidate will hold Level 2 BSE Adult Transthoracic Accreditation and be capable of independently scanning and reporting at an advanced level. They should be confident in advanced imaging modalities, including speckle tracking and global longitudinal strain (GLS), and able to provide imaging support for transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE). They will apply their expertise across a range of advanced physiologist-led specialist clinics and contribute to ongoing professional development and service development initiatives. Strong day-to-day leadership and collaboration with the Service Manager are essential, including training responsibilities.

Main duties

• Perform and report a wide range of specialist echocardiography procedures with the ability to make accurate, reproducible measurements, interpret findings, and produce high-standard reports.
• Develop and participate in advanced echocardiographic skills within physiologist-led services (ICC, valve and stress echo) with supported training.
• Lead a sub-specialty within the service and lead, motivate and develop small teams within their area of expertise.
• Contribute to day-to-day service organisation and participate in audits, quality assurance, and governance programmes.
• Work as part of the senior team to support service delivery and collaborate on training plans and practical/theoretical teaching.
• Be well-organised, adaptable, dependable, and capable of working under pressure with strong prioritisation and teamwork skills; support the development of junior staff.
• Engage in education and training activities, contribute to student programmes, and assist in designing training plans and delivering teaching.

Qualifications

• Essential: Cardiac Physiology BSc, Cardiac Science MSc (STP) or relevant degree with ETP qualification, or HNC/MPPM with qualifying long service and clinical experience.
• Registration with the AHCS/HCPC or ability to gain registration within 6 months (reviewed at interview).
• Level 2 BSE TTE Adult Accreditation and active professional membership.
• Desirable: BSE Stress Accreditation; Teaching qualification; Mentoring/leadership qualification.

Experience

• Essential: Significant experience at band 6 level with BSE TTE Accreditation level 2; proven expertise in echocardiography; ability to perform and report a full range of advanced echocardiographic procedures; delivered formal theoretical and/or practical training in echocardiography.
• Desirable: Active involvement with the BSE committee; leadership development; relevant audit/QA experience; specialist area of echocardiography; experience in echo support for interventional cardiology.
