Highly Specialist Applied Psychologist

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist to join the North Yorkshire and York Eating Disorder Service for children and young people. The post will be based in Orca House, York, with expectations for the successful candidate to travel to other parts of the locality as needed; travel expenses will be covered.

We invite applications from suitably qualified Clinical Psychologists. The successful candidate will be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced and skilled Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist to join our team for 12 months. We seek a creative and flexible psychological professional to help improve access to psychological therapies and deliver interventions locally to children and families.

You will be expected to have the necessary skills and experience to undertake direct clinical work with children and families, offer clinical supervision and consultation, contribute to service evaluation, and manage service development and change. Candidates should be skilled psychological professionals with excellent interdisciplinary working skills and an interest in developing an innovative service.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary: Accountable for own professional practice in delivering highly specialist psychological care to clients with complex mental health conditions, which may include high levels of distress and challenging behaviors. Demonstrate compassion in meeting clients', carers', and families' needs. Provide clinical supervision and training to less experienced colleagues within the psychology service and to other multidisciplinary team members. Undertake formal research as part of the role and act as field supervisor to doctoral trainees. Be proactive in service improvement within your area. Person Specification
Qualifications
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical, counseling, or forensic psychology, accredited by the BPS.
  • Post-doctoral training in additional specialized areas of psychological practice
  • Training in clinical supervision and supervision of doctoral trainees
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Registration with BPS
Experience
  • Experience as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service, working with diverse client groups across the lifespan and clinical severity levels in various care settings.
  • Full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care as a care coordinator within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in teaching, training, clinical supervision, and supervising doctoral theses.
  • Research and development experience
  • Experience in quality and service improvement and evaluation
Skills
  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to a wide audience
  • Creatively adapt evidence-based interventions for clients with communication difficulties or learning disabilities
  • Provide effective teaching, training, and supervision to multidisciplinary teams
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and assume care coordination or lead practitioner roles
  • Engage in complex multi-agency working and liaise across systems
  • Identify and promote appropriate interventions/support for carers and staff exposed to distressing situations and challenging behaviors
