Job description

Band 7 Highly Specialised Respiratory Physiologist

We are seeking a Highly Specialised Respiratory Physiologist to join our team on a 12 month fixed term basis.

As an autonomous practitioner you will undertake and report on a range of routine and advanced lung function tests and procedures within the Respiratory Physiology Department, in accordance with ARTP criteria. There will be Rotation between external and internal sites.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Calibration, monitoring, safety and quality control of all equipment within the Lung Function Unit.
  2. Provide highly specialist advice, teaching and training to both physiologists and other health care professionals within the multi-disciplinary team.
  3. Review, develop and facilitate the implementation of standard operating procedures and guidelines within the department in accordance with current research, and national/local guidelines.
  4. Financial planning, capacity and demand reviews, and understanding of budget management.
  5. Keep abreast of current advances and best practice in Respiratory Physiology to provide an excellent quality patient care service through cost-effective innovation.
  6. Plan and undertake a range of simple and complex respiratory diagnostic tests in accordance with ARTP criteria/local and agreed standards.
  7. Responsible for the safety of patients at all times in the lung function unit through risk management and by complying with equipment safety, maintenance and infection control policies.
  8. Responsible for data entry, text processing and storage of data using a computer-based data entry system.
  9. Provide an interpretation of data collected on a written report within a standardised format to ensure clarity and consistency of presentation.
  10. Ensure data and reports obtained from clinical investigations are issued and communicated in a timely manner to referring physicians depending on their clinical urgency.
  11. Support the development of new procedures and investigations and develop staff accordingly.
  12. Maintain a current ILS certification.
