Job summary
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board's Welsh Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Centre, in partnership with the Psychology & Psychological Therapies Directorate, offers an exciting opportunity for a HCPC Registered Highly Specialised Practitioner Psychologist - Band 8b to to be part of a recently developed multi-disciplinary outreach team based in UHL. The development of this dedicated outreach service has enabled the Welsh centre to support people with complex spinal cord injury rehabilitation needs along the care pathway. This dedicated MDT provides input to DGH's across Wales, advising on specialist care and supporting local clinical teams in the holistic management of people with highly complex needs. It has the scope to offer those people who have complex spinal rehabilitation needs across Wales and have difficulties attending clinics in Cardiff to be seen in their local community or even at home in a timely manner. This includes improving access to psychological interventions and services for people living with spinal cord injury along the care pathway.

Main duties of the jobPsychological skills are highly valued within the Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Service and have been part of the planning for this new service. There is an opportunity for providing and designing psychological care, for direct client work, work with families, consultancy, staff-focussed interventions, innovation, service improvement/design, care pathway improvement, skills training and research/audit. In addition to the clinical and MDT roles, leadership of the psychological components of the dedicated outreach service is a key element of this post. This includes overseeing the other psychological roles/tasks within the service, consultation/supervision, and contributing to ideas for expansion and the future development of the service in collaboration with the lead consultant psychologist.
The post will enhance the existing specialist spinal cord injury rehabilitation psychology service, which currently includes a lead consultant and principal practitioner psychologist.
The post is 1.0wte, 37.5 hours per week.
It is essential for this post to hold a Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent), to be a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical or Counselling), and be eligible for Chartered Psychologist status with the BPS. Substantial and demonstrable post-qualification experience of working as a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist with experience working with people with medical problems/physical disability.
About usThis is an exciting time to join Cardiff & Vale UHB. The UHB has supported the development of psychological expertise in medical settings and there is a growing Clinical Health Psychology and Neuropsychology Specialty. The post-holder will join the newly established Neuro-Rehabilitation Psychology Department at Llandough and be based with colleagues working in both spinal cord injury rehabilitation and clinical neuropsychology. There is an active professional network for clinical psychologists in South Wales and you would be able to develop your professional, leadership, supervisory and clinical skills via CPD opportunities.
