Job overview

We are currently looking to expand our highly-skilled Echocardiography team at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

We are an ambitious and enthusiastic team, providing a range of standard, community and complex echocardiography clinics including physiologist led stress echocardiography, bubble and contrast studies alongside developing physiologist led TOE services. We are also a regional centre of excellence for the assessment of pulmonary hypertension.

The post holder should be able to independently perform a range of highly specialised cardiac ultrasound investigations, including adult transthoracic, 3D, and assisting with stress & transoesophageal echocardiograms. Performing accurate and reproducible measurements and quantification, interpreting findings, and independently confirming diagnostic reports, to a highly competent professional standard is also essential.

The department is fully accredited with BSE and dedicated to educating all Echo physiologists. We are an active research department, working under Professor Augustine in the field of echocardiography in pulmonary hypertension.

Rotational shifts over 6 days to include Sunday work, potential on-call (cathlab only) and working in the community environment.

Main duties of the job

To perform and report highly complex echocardiograms, 2D and 3D echo studies in both inpatient and outpatient (hospital and community) settings. Be able to undertake complex diagnostic cardiac clinical physiology procedures and interpret the results independently to provide factual/clinical reports.

To be responsible for the department's continual development and day-to-day running by maintaining regular communication with the Head of Echocardiography and consultants informing them of any new developments or necessary changes in practice.

In conjunction with other senior scientific staff within the department, assist with training/development and management for those directly involved in providing the echo service, including highly specialised Physiologists, student Scientists/Physiologists and medical staff undergoing echo training.

Assist the Head of Echocardiography in setting, maintaining, monitoring and auditing quality and technical standards for the service. Undertaking triage of both inpatient and outpatient echo requests and supporting other diagnostic areas as service needs require. Participating in developing departmental protocols and policies and in the continual training of various staff groups in echocardiography.

Supporting all areas of cardiac diagnostics including ambulatory and Cath lab will be essential.
