Hours: 8 am to 4 pm

Job type: Full-time

Location: Northampton

Higher level assistants are required at Overstone Independent School in Northampton on a permanent basis to start in September 2024.

To provide a complementary service to teachers and other staff, addressing the needs of (SEND) children who require assistance in overcoming barriers to learning to achieve their full potential or access the curriculum.

The position will include visiting disengaged pupils at home to deliver tuition while parents are in the home.

To work with a range of pupils, but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages, including:

  • Children with special or medical needs
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Children with a statement of special educational needs

The role is primarily education-based but will also involve working with families and the wider community.

To work with children on a one-to-one basis or in small or large groups, acting as a:

  • Listener
  • Mentor
  • Facilitator for learning
  • Encourager
  • Motivator
  • Role model

Core Purpose

  • To work with pupils with additional needs and behaviour challenges that significantly impact their attainment.
  • To support the ethos of the school.
  • To improve progress and achievement by helping to minimize barriers to learning and maximize pupil participation.

Qualifications

  • Qualification in Level 2 or 3 in childcare, health and social care, or above.
  • Training is offered.
  • Experience: Three years of working with children or within the care sector.
