Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Are you ready to take on a more active role in the classroom and help make a real difference in pupils’ learning journeys?

GSL Education are looking for a motivated and reliable Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support teaching and learning in welcoming schools across Scunthorpe. This is a great opportunity for someone seeking flexible or long-term work in a supportive environment.

About the role:

As a HLTA, you will be expected to support the class teacher, lead learning activities, and take responsibility for delivering planned lessons when required. Your role will be vital in helping pupils succeed academically and socially, while contributing to the wider school community.

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Responsibilities:

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons to whole classes in the absence of the teacher.
  • Provide learning support to individuals and groups across school’s Key Stages.
  • Collaborate with teachers to prepare resources and support lesson planning.
  • Lead small group interventions focused on literacy, numeracy, or behaviour.
  • Assist with pupil assessment, recording progress and identifying areas of need.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages participation.
  • Follow the school’s safeguarding, behaviour, and equality policies.
  • Support the wider team, including mentoring Teaching Assistants where appropriate.
  • Participate in school events, staff meetings, and training sessions as required.

What you must have to be an HLTA:

  • HLTA qualification or relevant higher-level training is desirable.
  • Proven experience working in UK school settings as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA).
  • Confident in leading classes and working independently with pupils.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to different school environments with a positive attitude.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
