Qualifications

Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Location: Grimsby
Salary: £98.94 – £114.84 per day (Dependent on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

Are you an experienced and confident classroom support professional ready to step up and make a broader impact?

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join welcoming and well-resourced schools in Grimsby. This is a fantastic opportunity to support teaching and learning while taking on greater responsibility in the classroom.

As an HLTA, you will work collaboratively with teachers to support pupils across a range of subjects and year groups. You may also be asked to lead planned lessons, cover classes during teacher absences, and work with small groups or individuals to accelerate progress.

What you have to do as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA):

  • Support class teachers in planning and delivering engaging and effective lessons.
  • Provide targeted interventions to pupils who need additional academic or pastoral support.
  • Lead whole-class lessons in the absence of the teacher, following pre-prepared plans.
  • Work across key stages as required, adapting to the curriculum and learner needs.
  • Monitor, record, and report pupil progress and behaviour.
  • Support the development of pupils’ literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Help create a stimulating and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist in mentoring and guiding Teaching Assistants or new staff where appropriate.
  • Uphold school policies on behaviour, safeguarding, and equality.

HLTA Requirements:

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent recognised training/certification is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a school setting as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) is essential.
  • Strong understanding of the UK curriculum and effective classroom practice.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Confidence in delivering lessons and supporting whole-class teaching.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for a new one.
