About the role

Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – SEN School

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

The role and school:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our supportive SEN school.

The school caters for students from Early Years to Post 16 education who have a range of Special Educational Needs, including learning difficulties, ASD, physical needs and SEMH.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support individual and group learning activities tailored to pupils’ needs.
  • Cover lessons and manage whole class sessions following planned activities.
  • Support pupils with a range of needs, including Autism, SEMH, physical disabilities, and learning difficulties.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and review of personalized learning plans.
  • Promote positive behavior and a nurturing environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to support pupil progress.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress and wellbeing.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar SEN role.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., HLTA status, Level 3 or above in Supporting Children with SEN, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of SEN legislation, safeguarding, and positive behavior management strategies.
  • Strong communication skills and patience.
  • A flexible, proactive, and caring approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
