Contract Type: Full-time

Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: £14.77 p/hr to £16.13p/hr depending on experience and qualifications (Annual salary £26,391 to £28,821)

We are currently looking for an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant for our 'Outstanding' rated Aurora Hanley School, to start in September 2025.

The school supports young people aged 6 - 19 with ASC, communication and sensory needs. We offer life skills and a wide range of GCSE/BTEC accreditations alongside a functional skills/entry level pathway. Behaviours across the school are excellent.

We are looking to appoint someone to support high standards of learning and achievement for all students.

The Role:

As a HLTA, your role will be to establish a warm, caring and supportive relationship with pupils, providing tailored educational and creative support to engage reluctant or anxious learners. You will lead by example and have firm knowledge of ASC practice to support learning and achievement.

Within the context of the School’s aims and policies you’ll be expected to know and understand the Class Teacher’s curriculum planning and to plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes modifying in the event of staff absence and adapt activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision.

Naturally, you will take responsibility for implementing school policies and practices, including those relating to safeguarding and equality of opportunity. Additionally; you will also be expected to carefully monitor the health, well-being and personal care of our pupils; informing Pastoral/Clinical/ SEND support teams and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

  • Level 3 qualification and/or equivalent experience as a HLTA
  • Experience of working with young people with ASC and SEN to include the use of strategies and assessment tools
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Ability to create and maintain strong nurturing relationships with young people
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to learning, to include the students with anxiety.
  • Knowledge of strategies and visual teaching methods to engage reluctant learners.
