Location: Southend-on-Sea
Salary: £90 to £130 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about education and eager to support teaching and learning at a higher level.

About the Role

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting teaching staff, leading learning activities, and helping students achieve their full potential. You’ll work closely with teachers to deliver engaging lessons and contribute to a positive and productive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities of Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and learning activities in the absence of the teacher.
  • Support the planning and preparation of lessons and classroom resources.
  • Provide targeted support to individuals and small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Assist in monitoring student progress and maintaining accurate records.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to enhance the overall learning experience.
  • Contribute to the assessment and evaluation of student development.

Requirements for Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working in a primary classroom setting is essential.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Confidence in leading learning activities and managing classroom behaviour.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting teaching and learning.
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

To work with GSL Education as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will need:

  • The right to work in the UK.
  • An up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • An enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
