A forward-thinking school in Durham is seeking a dedicated Senior Learning Support Assistant to join their team from September. Role Overview

As a HLTA, you’ll play a key role in helping pupils succeed by working closely with teachers, SEND coordinators, and external professionals. You will be instrumental in delivering personalised support plans, fostering progress in learning, wellbeing, and behaviour across all age groups.

This position is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic, adaptable, and passionate about inclusive education.

Main Duties

Provide tailored one-on-one and group support for students with special educational needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and other learning barriers.

Lead and deliver focused interventions in core skills such as reading, writing, maths, communication, and social development.

Adapt and support the delivery of classroom activities to enhance participation for all learners.

Track student progress and behaviours, contributing to reports shared with staff and families.

Work with school staff and external agencies to help implement EHCP goals and individualised learning strategies.

Support pupils through educational transitions within and between settings.

Help develop and improve inclusive teaching materials and classroom practices.

What We’re Looking For

Prior experience supporting children or young people with additional needs, ideally within a school or educational environment.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage behaviour constructively.

A caring, patient, and positive attitude with a commitment to helping young people flourish.

Sound knowledge of safeguarding procedures and responsibilities.

An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).

Recognised Level 3+ qualification relevant to teaching or support work.

Experience working in an educational or youth setting OR a minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
