Job summary

SS Peter & Paul Catholic Primary School in Newport seeks an enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant to provide PPA cover across Nursery to Year 6. The role involves planning, delivering high-quality activities, and supporting pupil progress in a nurturing Catholic school environment.

We are looking for someone with HLTA status, strong EYFS knowledge, and a commitment to inclusion and professional development.

Qualifications

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience across the primary age range, including EYFS.
  • Knowledge of phonics, early reading and language development.
  • Ability to lead whole-class learning from Nursery to Year 6.

Responsibilities

  • Provide planned PPA cover across all year groups Nursery–Year 6.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality learning activities under supervision.
  • Monitor, assess, record and report pupil progress.
  • Support pupils of all abilities and adapt learning activities as needed.
  • Promote high expectations for learning, behaviour and achievement.
  • Deliver curriculum elements including literacy, numeracy and early years teaching.
  • Support inclusion and pupil wellbeing; build positive relations with pupils, staff and parents.
  • Organise learning environments and resources; use assessment to inform next steps.

HIGHER LEVEL TEACHING ASSISTANT (HLTA)

Salary: Scale 5 SCP 13-17 (£15.06-£16.08 per hour, dependent on experience)

Hours: 28 hours per week across 4 days (8.30am-4.00pm), term time only

The Governors of Our Blessed Saints Catholic Federation are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and nurturing Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join the dedicated team at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Primary School.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HLTA to work across the school, providing high-quality PPA cover from Nursery to Year 6. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning, delivering planned lessons, promoting excellent pupil progress and contributing to the continued success of our school.

Following our recent Ofsted inspection, the school was recognised for its strong culture of learning, high expectations and effective support for pupils. We are looking for a professional who shares these ambitions and can support children to achieve their full potential.

The Role
  • Provide planned PPA cover across all year groups from Nursery to Year 6.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality learning activities under an agreed system of supervision.
  • Monitor, assess, record and report on pupils' achievement, progress and development.
  • Support pupils of all abilities, adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Promote high expectations of learning, behaviour and achievement.
  • Deliver aspects of the curriculum, including literacy, numeracy and early years learning.
  • Support the inclusion and wellbeing of all pupils.
  • Create positive and productive working relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
  • Organise and manage appropriate learning environments and resources.
  • Use assessment information effectively to inform next steps in learning.
  • Contribute to the wider life, ethos and values of the school.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
  • Holds HLTA status or an equivalent qualification.
  • Has successful experience of working across the primary age range.
  • Has recent and substantial experience within EYFS and a strong understanding of child development and the EYFS Framework.
  • Has knowledge of phonics, early reading and language development.
  • Can confidently lead whole-class learning across Nursery to Year 6.
  • Has high expectations for all pupils and a commitment to inclusion.
  • Can work collaboratively as part of a team whilst also using their own initiative.
  • Is reflective, proactive and committed to continuous professional development.
  • Will actively support the Catholic ethos and values of the school.
