Aurora Redehall School

Part of the Aurora Group, Aurora Redehall School, in Smallfield, Surrey are currently looking to recruit a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to work in our SLCN class. Redehall School supports children aged 6 years with communication difficulties typically associated with Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism.

Aurora Redehall School is linked to Caterham Education Centre; they share the same Principal and Head of School, however, each site has its own Assistant Head and team of Teachers and TAs. There is also a full therapy team on site to support staff and students. Although the sites operate separately, students and staff do cross between sites.

Key Duties:

Pupil Welfare and Safeguarding

  • Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
  • Provide meaningful feedback on pupil behaviour, relationships and attitudes.
  • Monitor pupils conduct and behaviour throughout the learning process and intervene to resolve highly complex, difficult or very challenging issues and to keep records of incidents, health, behaviour etc. as necessary.

Supporting Teaching and Learning

  • To lead in the absence of any Class Teachers across the school.
  • Assist the Class Teacher with carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as outlined in the Professional Standards for Teachers.
  • Know and understand the Class Teacher’s curriculum planning and to plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision.
  • To provide high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
  • Develop and implement individual plans for pupils (such as the educational elements in an EHCP), including attendance at, and contribution to, reviews if requested.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Previous experience with SLCN
  • GCSE Maths and English qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.
  • The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification or demonstrate equivalent skill level.
