About The Role

Would you like to be part of a warm and friendly team? Here at The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, we are a hardworking, enthusiastic bunch with a vacancy for a Registered Higher-level Pharmacy Technician based in the inpatient dispensary. This could be the perfect opportunity for an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician looking for their next challenge or a Rotational Pharmacy Technician looking to expand their horizons and gain experience at a higher level within the dispensary area. Excellent training and development opportunities will be provided. The successful candidate will demonstrate dynamism and commitment and be valued as a team player whilst assisting the Specialist Technicians in the running of the dispensary. As a member of the Patient Services team, you would be encouraged to contribute to the forward planning of the department and help in the co-ordination of workflow whilst undertaking a wide range of duties including accuracy checking and dispensing. Pharmacy strives for excellence with the Trust values at the core of our service. The dispensary opening hours are 8:45am - 7pm and working hours for this post can be negotiated, however a commitment to working until 7pm on at least three days will be required.

Main duties
  • Undertake a wide range of duties within the inpatient dispensary including contributing to medicines management systems.
  • Check dispensed items for accuracy as an accredited checker.
  • Contribute to the efficient delivery of the Pharmaceutical Service to Patients, Wards, and Departments both within the Trust and to other healthcare organisations.
  • Supervise the work of other staff in Dispensary Services and contribute to the development and training of other staff.
Essential Person Specification Requirements

The Successful candidate will be GPHC registered pharmacy Technician with experience of dispensing medicines. They will also have a certificate of accreditation as an Checking Technician, or willing to complete training within 18 months once in post. They will have a BTEC level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent pharmacy qualifications. They must be able to work methodically and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail. Able to communicate well verbally with other healthcare professionals and patients some of whom may have barriers to understanding. Must be able to deal sensitively with all patients some of whom may be severely ill or distressed by their condition. Pleasant and helpful manner. Must possess initiative. Able to work well within a tea.
