Job description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced High Voltage Fitter to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of high voltage electrical systems and equipment. This role requires a thorough understanding of high voltage electrical principles, safety protocols, and industry standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installation of both AIS and GIS substation equipment.
  • Installations of HV equipment such as Power transformers, up to 400kV, Earth Switches, Disconnectors, CT’s, Protection panels, Battery chargers, SCADA panels etc within new or existing substations to ensure compliance with DNO/IDNO specifications.
  • Installation and maintenance of switchgear from low voltage up to 400kV, including GIS.
  • Installations of sub-station earthing to specified drawings. Experience with oxygen and propane brazing or exothermic welding would be an advantage.
  • Installations of prefabricated steel work, uni-strut products, cable ladder & tray.
  • Carry out testing and inspection of installations such as cable testing (IR testing, continuity) Ductor testing and recording results.
  • Glanding and termination of SWA and Multicore cables.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to determine assembly requirements.
  • Assemble components using hand tools, power tools, and other equipment as necessary.
  • Conduct quality checks on completed assemblies to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Panel wiring following line drawings and core sheets.
  • Panel wiring mods as required by the client.
  • Helping electricians with some installation on site if required.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environment & quality polices, procedures and standards at all times.

Skills and Experience:

  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and power tools for assembly tasks.
  • Strong understanding of safe systems of works within a substation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for collaboration with team members.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
