Job summary

University of Birmingham is recruiting a full-time Athletics Coach to lead sprint, jumps and throws coaching within the University Athletics Club. You will coordinate coaching staff, mentor athletes and liaise with BUCS and Talent Hub partners to raise performance levels.

You will plan sessions, manage scholarships, and develop annual competition plans while ensuring an inclusive, professional culture across the department.

Qualifications

• Current UKA Athletics Coach Qualification (Level 2 or higher).
• Extensive knowledge of HE/FE sporting landscape and competition structure.
• Experience budgeting across scholarship programmes.
• Proven mentoring experience for coaches and athletes in Talent Hub/JTP programmes.
• Strong communication and organisational skills across multiple support programmes.
• Experience working with NGB Talent Pathway Leads and sport practitioners.
• Educated to Degree level or equivalent; significant practical experience accepted.
• Ability to write clearly and analyse information; literacy and numeracy demonstrated.
• Knowledge of Equality Act 2010 and applying it day-to-day.

Responsibilities

• Plan running and development of athletics coaching sessions.
• Manage and develop a team of sprint, jump, and throw coaches.
• Support student leadership in athletes and club committee members.
• Liaise with athletics staff and performance centre staff on sessions and club development.
• Oversee recruitment, selection, delivery, and budgeting of Athletics Team Scholarships.
• Develop annual competition plans including targets for sport, squads, and individuals.
• Know BUCS rules and talent pathway implications; adjust budget and performance plans accordingly.
• Act as contact for Talent Hub and YTP athletes/coaches with regular engagement.
• Lead manage track and field competition internally and externally.
