This is a three-year NHS Talking Therapies training role working towards a qualification as a High-Intensity Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. Year one is a Band 5 foundation course. Upon successful completion, the candidate progresses to a two-year fixed-term Band 6 position in High-Intensity Psychotherapeutic Counselling.
Training involves 3 days per week with Roehampton University and 2 days per week working with clients, initially offering high-intensity psychodynamic counselling and later Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT). The course combines in-person training and online live sessions via Zoom. As this is a Postgraduate diploma, applicants must be able to study and write academic material at this level, including outside of protected study time (weekends and after work).
This role is suited for applicants who can balance a busy work and study schedule. Successful applicants will need to be available to start training at the end of September 2025.
North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) is committed to improving mental health care across North London to deliver excellent services to our community.
Staff may be required to work at different locations under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, or Islington, as needed.
This is a dual application process: you must be employed in a Recruit to Train funded role to also secure a university place. Ineligibility for the course means no offer can be made. Withdrawal after acceptance of employment but before starting the course will prevent joining the programme. Shortlisting and interviews will be carried out jointly by IAPT services and Roehampton University. Successful applicants must meet both the job requirements and university entry criteria.
When applying, your name will be shared with Roehampton University, which may contact you for additional information necessary for eligibility assessment. Shared information may include reasons for ineligibility, application queries, or name changes.
By applying, you consent to information sharing between the Course Team and the recruitment service, limited to eligibility verification. No unrelated information will be disclosed.
